A drawer base doesn't need old-growth teak, and a carved leg can't be cut from a flat panel. We match seven materials to the part they're best at - engineered panels where flatness and finish matter, solid seasoned timber where strength and grain matter - so nothing is over-built, and nothing is under-built.

Backs, bases, hidden panels and wide flat surfaces - built from engineered and cross-layered panels, chosen for stability over a large area.
Both-side pre-laminated MDF
- Made from wood fibres bonded under heat and pressure - no grain, no knots, no weak spots.
- Laminated on both sides at the factory, so the panel is sealed against everyday moisture and stays dimensionally even.
- Perfectly flat, dead-smooth surfaces - the honest choice for parts that should disappear.
Russian birch ply wood
- Every ply is birch, stacked in tight cross-grain layers - no softwood filler hiding in the core.
- Virtually void-free, so screws and hinges bite and hold instead of stripping out.
- The alternating layers cancel each other's movement - it stays flat and takes real load without sagging.
Both-side veneer-laminated ply
- A true wood-grain face - thin real timber, not a printed pattern - on a stable plywood core.
- Veneered on both faces, which balances the panel so it holds its shape where a solid board would cup.
- Takes oil and lacquer the way solid wood does, because the surface you touch is solid wood.
New Zealand pine sheet
- Light, even-toned softwood with a clear, consistent grain - takes stain and oil without blotching.
- Radiata pine is grown on managed plantations and harvested on rotation, not cleared from native forest.
- Machines and sands to a fine, even surface - clean laser engraving with very little waste.
For the parts that carry weight and get handled every day
Legs, frames, carved details and toys - cut from solid, seasoned timber and polished by hand with double-boiled linseed oil.
Imported Canadian seasoned pine
- Slow-grown in a cold climate, which gives tighter growth rings and a more stable board than fast-grown pine.
- Seasoned down to furniture moisture content before it reaches the bench, so it won't shrink, crack or twist in your home.
- Light and easy to carve and round - ideal for hand-shaped edges, and it holds engraving crisply.
Old Burmese teak wood
- Naturally rich in its own oils and silica - the reason teak resists rot, moisture and insects without treatment.
- Selected, not simply aged -"old" teak is mature, long-seasoned or reclaimed timber that has stayed sound. Years of drying are already behind it, and only the pieces that came through it well are worth using.
- Deepens from honey-gold to a richer brown with age and handling, instead of fading.
Natural rubber wood
- Comes from rubber trees only after their 25–30 year latex-tapping life ends - timber that was once simply burnt.
- Fine, tight, pale-honey grain that's denser and more dent-resistant than pine.
- Non-toxic with no natural irritants - the reason it's a worldwide standard for children's toys.
Double-boiled linseed oil, worked in by hand
Our three solid woods - Canadian seasoned pine, old Burmese teak and natural rubberwood - are hand-polished with linseed oil we boil twice before use. The heat thins the oil so it drives deeper into the grain than a cold application would, and shortens the cure. No synthetic topcoat sits on top of the wood; what you touch is the wood itself, sealed from the inside.

Raw linseed oil is boiled twice before it touches wood. The heat thins it so it can travel deeper into the grain than a cold application ever would.
Worked in by hand
Two thin coats, rubbed in along the grain with a cloth and days of drying between them - never sprayed, never rushed.
Cured before it ships
The oil fully hardens before a piece leaves the workshop, so what reaches you is a sealed, stable finish - not a wet one.
